Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Aromas of dark wild berries, spices and smoke mingled with animal and carnal notes preface the 2022 Chinon Les Granges, a medium-bodied, juicy and round wine with structured tannins and a dry, short finish that also displays carnal undertones. Crafted from vines rooted in sandy, gravelly soils, it’s matured for nine months in concrete tanks.

Description
Bernard Baudry Les Granges is a fruity and pleasant wine that should be drunk young. It is an easy-drinking, round Chinon from sandy and gravelly soils. This red wine is made from 100% Cabernet Franc, one of the most emblematic grapes of the Loire region. The vines were planted between 1985 and 1988 on recent alluvial terraces, composed of gravel and sand, which gives the wine a unique personality and an excellent expression of the terroir.
Winemaking
The vinification and ageing of Bernard Baudry Les Granges is carried out with the utmost care to preserve the quality and purity of the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring that only the best quality grapes are used in the winemaking process. Fermentation takes place in cement vats for two weeks, a process that allows for a slow and controlled fermentation, enhancing the fruity flavours of the wine. The wine is then aged for seven to ten months in the same cement tanks, which helps to maintain its freshness and liveliness. Bottling takes place the following spring or summer, ensuring that the wine is ready to enjoy at its best.
Taste
Bernard Baudry Les Granges presents an intriguing and complex flavour profile. On the nose, it displays a range of aromas including dark and wild berries, spices and smoke, all complemented by subtle animal and meaty notes that give it a distinctive character. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, juicy and round, with structured tannins that give it a pleasant texture. The finish is dry and relatively short, but leaves a lasting impression with its meaty nuances.
