Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The flagship 2017 Barco del Corneta is a textbook, traditional Verdejo that is kept in bottle for one year before it's released. It's produced in a manual way with no additions or makeup, just grapes from their organically farmed vineyard fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in barrique but with no aromas or flavors of oak; there's nothing tropical about it either. It's elegant, balanced and tasty, with super-integrated oak and a soft and tender mouthfeel, quite lively for a warm and dry vintage like 2017 when they harvested earlier than ever. There's good ripeness and concentration, focused flavors and aromas and a sense of harmony that I like very much. It's varietal and finishes with the textbook bitterness in the finish. This is one of the finest Verdejos around. 10,800 bottles were filled in September 2018.
