Description
For more than five centuries, the Codorníu family has been cultivating vineyards in the Penedès region with a clear philosophy: respect for the land, constant innovation and a quest for elegance. In 1984, Anna de Codorníu Brut Nature burst onto the scene as a tribute to the last woman to bear the surname and revolutionised the world of Cava by adding Chardonnay to the traditional blend of Macabeo, Xarel.lo and Parellada. A courageous decision that marked a before and after in the production of Cava in Spain. Anna Codorníu Brut Nature was born from the desire to show the purest character of the terroir, without added sugar, and with a dry, vibrant and sophisticated profile. The vineyards, planted on calcareous soils, under the influence of the Mediterranean climate, provide freshness, structure and an unmistakable identity.
Winemaking
The grapes for Anna Codorníu Brut Nature are harvested at their optimum point, some at night to preserve the aromas. Each variety is fermented separately at a low temperature after a gentle pressing. The Chardonnay, from more continental areas, contributes refined acidity and floral aromas; the traditional Penedès varieties offer balance and expression. Once the coupage is done, Anna Codorníu Brut Nature undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle, according to the traditional method, and remains for at least 12 months in contact with its lees in the underground cellars. Disgorgement is carried out without the addition of sugar (Brut Nature), which reinforces its dry and direct profile.
Taste
Pale yellow colour, with greenish reflections and fine bubbles. On the nose, Anna Codorníu Brut Nature is clean, with notes of green apple, pear, citrus peel, and a subtle background of nuts and toasted bread. On the palate it is dry and fresh, with a crisp acidity, creamy texture and long finish, with a slight bitterness that enhances its elegant character. The palate is agile, sharp, with good tension. Ideal for pairing with fish, seafood, sautéed vegetables or white meats. An uncompromising, direct and expressive Cava that speaks clearly of Codorníu' s Mediterranean soul.
