Description
Andreas Tscheppe Blaue Libelle is an elegant and distinguished expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Produced in Austria, specifically in the Südsteiermark region of Leutschach, this wine comes from vineyards located in Czamillonberg and Krepskogel. The vines, ranging in age from 6 to 16 years, grow on terraces with a geographical orientation to the southeast and south. The soil in which these grapes are grown is calcareous clay, an opaque type of soil that gives the wine its unique characteristics.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed before pressing. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in 300 to 2,000 litre barrels and vats, which are between 2 and 15 years old. The wine is aged in these same barrels for 18 months, and bottled unfiltered and, in most cases, without the addition of sulphur. Fifty percent of the wine is aged in large, used wooden barrels, while the other 50% is aged in new barrels.
Taste
Andreas Tscheppe Blaue Libelle dazzles with an intense yellow colour. The nose is simply spectacular, offering aromas of white fruit, pineapple, mango and lychee. With time, mineral and white spice notes emerge, all of these aromas in perfect harmony. On the palate, this wine is well-balanced, with an adequate acidity that gives it freshness. It is a fatty, persistent, elegant, crisp and delicious wine. The precision with which this wine is made is evident in every sip, making it a jewel of Austrian winemaking. Undoubtedly, it is a masterpiece by Andreas Tscheppe that has captivated many wine lovers.
