Description
Albamar Sesenta e Nove Arrobas is an exceptional Albariño that faithfully reflects the Galician terroir and the artisanal dedication of its producer, Xurxo Alba, of the Albamar winery. This wine is born in the Salnés Valley region, a sub-area of the Rías Baixas known for producing some of Galicia's freshest and most complex Albariños. The grapes come from micro-plots that combine vines ranging from 50 to over 100 years old, grown organically and sustainably on granitic soils, characterised by their excellent drainage and ability to retain freshness in the wine.
The land is at sea level, benefiting from the Atlantic climate, which brings a constant sea breeze. This contributes to the vibrant acidity and saline profile of the wine. The soils of decomposed granite and fine sands, with slight proportions of clay, enrich the mineral character of the wine, giving it a unique complexity.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates to preserve the integrity of the grapes. Direct pressing is carried out before spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks, where indigenous yeasts initiate the process without external intervention, ensuring a genuine expression of the Albariño and its environment. A crucial part of its character comes from its prolonged ageing of more than 15 months on fine lees in steel tanks, a technique that allows the wine to gain structure and body without losing its freshness. No bâtonnage is carried out, which preserves subtlety and prevents the wine from acquiring heavy notes. Moreover, it is bottled without fining or filtering, with a minimum addition of sulphur dioxide, thus maintaining its purity.
Taste
Albamar Sesenta e Nove Arrobas stands out for its balanced structure, where the creaminess of the lees envelops its marked acidity, generating a broad and enveloping palate. On the nose, it displays aromas of stone fruit, such as peach and quince, accompanied by notes of fresh grass, white flowers and a delicate saline and smoky sensation that evokes the proximity of the Atlantic. On the palate, minerality and freshness are the protagonists, with a long and persistent finish that offers a bittersweet sensation, with hints of honey and ripe citrus fruits.
Albamar Sesenta e Nove Arrobas is a complex, fresh and gastronomic wine, perfect to accompany seafood and fish or to enjoy on its own. This Albariño has excellent ageing potential, and its evolution in bottle promises to further deepen its mineral character and delicate aromatic nuances.
