Vignerons du Sieur d'Arques is a cooperative set at Limoux municipality, pioneer in sparkling wine production with Blanquette de Limoux and Crémant de Limoux (Languedoc Roussillon department) having Mauzac variety as leading character. Limoux is a quite village near Carcassone, a city renowned for the exquisite and traditional cassoulet, a slow-cooked stew containing meat (typically pork, goose or duck) and white beans, made in an earthenware pot.
Sieur d'Arques cooperative is owned by around 300 wine making partners and has 2,800 hectares of vineyard, on clay-limestone soils, for designation of origin wines. Mediterranean climate enables grapes good sunlight exposure to complete their ripening and Atlantic marine breezes milder the extreme temperatures. There is a curious climate phenomenon in the area regarding the thermal difference between day and night due to the proximity of the French Pyrenees.
It is amazing the quality and steadiness of all their sparkling wines if you know the cooperative bottles the astonishing quantity of almost seven million bottles, which means 65% of the total sparkling wines production of AOC Limoux. Maybe the quality of their wines is partly due to Sieur d'Arques having Baron Philippe De Rothschild as partner and Denis Dubourdie as wine consultant. Denis is oenology professor at Bordeaux University and besides owning Château Doisy-Daëne winery (at Sauternes), is also external consultant in eminent wineries such as Domaine de Chevalier, Château Cheval Blanc and Château Haut Bailly among others.
Additionally to their sparkling wines, Sieur d'Arques also produces white and red wines, although they owe its reputation to the fine bubbles mentioned as follows: Première Bulle Brut makes an apology of Blanquette de Limoux as the first sparkling wine in the world; it is light with toasted brioche notes after ageing for 18 months in shacking tables. Première Bulle Rosé Brut offers us the quality of a salmon pale rosé with cherry nuances and fresh in mouth due to excellent acidity. Première Bulle Premium Brut is the bet for fine bubbles; Aimery Blanquette Brut is a naive wine, floral with apricot reminders, interesting to quench your thirst! Finally Toques et Clochers is the most elegant and complex one, where acacia, flowers and butter melt in an unmistakable aroma that will let your imagination run to Champagne wines but at a affordable price!
Sieur d'Arques, our wild card sparkling wine!
