History

Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen, one of Germany's most prestigious wine regions. The winery is a family legacy that has been run by Egon Müller IV since 1991. The history of the winery dates back to 1797, when the ancestors of the Müller family acquired vineyards that previously belonged to the monastery of St. Maria ad Martyres. Since then, the vineyard has remained in the hands of the family and has been managed by four generations of Egon Müller. Egon Müller III, in particular, oriented the quality policy of the winery towards high quality products and acquired additional plots, such as the Weingut "Le Gallais" in 1954.

Vineyards

The terroir of the Egon Müller winery is exceptional. They own around 16 hectares of vineyards in the Mosel wine region, producing approximately 80,000 bottles of Saar wine per year. One of their most emblematic vineyards is the Scharzhofberger, which covers 27.3 ha of a hillside east of the Scharzhof. This hillside, which faces exactly south, is composed of shale from the Devonian period. It is this unique terrain, together with the region's climate, that contributes to the distinctive quality of its wines.

Philosophy

Egon Müller-Scharzhof is proud of its tradition and heritage. In the cellar of the winery, one would look in vain for modern technology. Everything is done in a very traditional way, with great care and consideration. The wines are aged in old oak barrels, which are repaired more often than they are replaced. This dedication to tradition has proven successful for decades. Egon Müller wines are known for their perfect balance, their power combined with elegance and their ability to seduce the palate. Many of its wines, especially the noble grain selection and ice wines, reach top prices on the market. Moreover, the winery does not sell its wines according to vintage; some wines are offered as rarities only after proper bottle ageing.
