Buy Wine from Château Nenin
Château Nenin is a property founded in Pomerol that belongs to Delon family since the year 1997. Previously, from the year 1847 it was managed by Despujols family, Delon relatives. It is interesting to see that Nenin is the only domain in the whole Pomerol appellation with a large vineyard tract of 32 hectares, while all the other châteaux in this area are small holdings with hardly 4 hectares and a small harvest.
Delon family are experts in the wine sector, as they also manage Léoville Las Cases en Saint Julien and Potensac in Médoc, and after their purchase of Nenin they re-organized the domain and some parts of the vineyard were replanted. Nenin is a quite peculiar château that produces dense and structured wines in contrast with their neighbour's production which is silky and velvety.
How is Château Nenin's terroir? Different soils of alluvial compound and gravel set up the scenery here: silica clay and gravel, quartz, granite, iron and basalt deposits… Another singularity of Nenin winery is that they bet on Cabernet Sauvignon variety (10%), typical from Médoc department. Also varieties Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (20%) are cultivated, grapevines being 30 years old in average and with a plantation density of 6.000 vines per hectare. In 1999 Delon family expanded the holding with 4 hectares from Château Certan Giraud and maison Jean Pierre Moueix acquired the rest of the vineyard where Hosanna is produced.
What about its wines? With Michel Rolland's assistance as oenologist consultant, they produce two wines following the most traditional techniques: Château Nenin, the first one, emphatic and with truffle, cherry, cocoa scents and masculine style. It needs some time laying down in bottle to gentle its tannins. The second wine, Fugue de Nenin, is the suitable option if you prefer a wine to be drank while young though lacking in personality!
