Buy Wine from Château Ducru Beaucaillou
Château Ducru Beaucaillou, as its French name implies, “beaux cailloux”, designates good and big stones, the same that distinguish this terroir. The château dates its origins back in 1720 and until now there have been five different families commanding Ducru Beaucaillou estate. Since 1950, Borie family has the property and Bruno Borie is actually running this Victorian style palace and producing one of the most delicious wines from Médoc region.
Château Ducru Beaucaillou is settled in one of the best locations of Médoc, at AOC Saint Julien, at the left bank of Gironde estuary, typical of the best Grand Cru Classé wines. Margaux is placed at the south of Saint Julien commune, and Saint Estèphe on its north. Saint Julien wines have an uncommon balance and aesthetics where the overwhelming power of Saint Estèphe and the reserved elegance of Margaux are combined.
Ducru Beaucaillou has 75 vineyard hectares with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc settled in the Eastern side of the appellation. Soils are deep, with big stones carried by the river and with high clay content. Vineyards are average 35 years old and the density is about 10.000 vines per hectare.
Château Ducru Beaucaillou wines are: Château Ducru Beaucaillou, the domaine's leading wine, classified as 2nd cru classé. This is indeed a great classical Bordeaux where fine tobacco, spices, smoke and black chocolate scents are present. Delicious, deep and enveloping in taste yet with tannins. Croix de Beaucaillou is the maison's second wine, and please believe me when I say it is in no way inferior to its elder brother. Many designate it as simply exceptional.
