Description

The history of Dolcetto d'Alba Priavino was born from a clear idea in Roberto Voerzio's mind: to demonstrate that Dolcetto, historically considered lesser than Nebbiolo or Barbera, could reach serious heights, without losing its authenticity. To do so, he applied the same rigorous philosophy as for his great wines: very low yields (1 to 1.5 kg per plant), meticulous cultivation and an intimate connection with the land. Planted in high-density vineyards (6,000 to 8,000 vines/ha) with an east-west exposure, Roberto Voerzio Dolcetto d'Alba Priavino is a Dolcetto that reflects the essence of the Terra Alta terroir, with clay-limestone soils that bring freshness and tension. The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-September, when the fruit expresses its best balance between ripeness and acidity. Voerzio says that for years he had to defend this approach against those who believed that Dolcetto was not worth the effort. But his conviction paid off.

Winemaking

Vinification is carried out exclusively in stainless steel, thus preserving fruit clarity and varietal expression. Fermentation is spontaneous, with indigenous yeasts, followed by a short maceration that extracts the essentials without excesses. There is no oak ageing; the wine is kept in tank until bottling to preserve its fresh, pure and direct character. Production is limited to around 12,000 bottles, underlining its artisanal approach.

Taste

On the nose, Roberto Voerzio Dolcetto d'Alba Priavino displays an attractive fruity intensity: black cherry, blueberry and a faint hint of ripe raspberry, with hints of wild herbs, mint and a delicate floral nuance. On the palate, it is surprisingly structured: fine, dusty tannins, vibrant acidity and a dry minerality that prolongs the finish. The black fruit remains the protagonist, but balanced by an earthy, saline background that adds dimension. This is a serious, gastronomic Dolcetto that works perfectly with pasta with ragout, grilled white meats or mild cured meats. A wine that breaks the mould and dignifies the variety with depth, tension and authenticity.
