Description
Protos Crianza is a pure expression of the character of Ribera del Duero, created by Bodegas Protos, a winery founded in 1927, famous for its focus on quality. This wine is made from 100% Tinta del País (Tempranillo), from vineyards aged between 30 and 35 years old, located on south-facing slopes, which optimises the ripening of the grapes. The soils, poor in organic matter and with a sandy loam texture, give the wine a unique personality.
Winemaking
The elaboration of Protos Crianza begins with a controlled alcoholic fermentation at low temperature (24-25 °C) to preserve the fruity character and avoid an excessive extraction of tannins. It also undergoes partial malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, which adds creaminess and structure. It is aged for 12 months in barrels : 33% new French oak, 34% American and French oak of one year and 33% of two years old.
Taste
On the palate, Protos Crianza is enveloping and well-balanced, with outstanding flavour and a refined maturity. The initial aromas of red fruits are subtly integrated with notes of wood that evoke sweet spices and a slight toasted touch. As the wine aerates, vanilla nuances and a subtle cocoa aftertaste appear, adding depth. This wine has a vibrant acidity and firm tannins that make it an ideal accompaniment to dishes such as baked cod, Iberian cured meats and grilled meats. Undoubtedly, a choice to enjoy slowly and feel the essence of a good crianza.
