Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The super perfumed 2017 O Santo do Mar Tinto is the second vintage of a red produced with Tinta Femia grapes, which is a strain of Caíño Tinto or Caíño Redondo. It comes from the zone of Cela (the label reads Tinto de Cea) in the village of Bueu, which belongs to the new IGP, Ribeiras do Morrazo, but the wine is produced in their winery in Salnés, so it cannot carry the IGP. This is a very Atlantic zone—by the sea and with sandy soils—and the wines have low alcohol and high marine influence. In the warm 2017, this achieved 11.5% alcohol, one full degree more than the previous year. The nose is an explosion of dry rose petals and freshly cracked peppercorns, and the palate is light to medium-bodied, with sharp acidity, notes of herbs and acid berries and very tasty, almost salty flavors. 700 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2019.
