Massuria 2012
£20.67 (Inc. VAT bot. 75 cl.) / North Ireland
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Somehow austere and classic, the 2012 Massuria is pure old-vine Mencía from a mixture of soils (sand and clay) fermented in a very traditional way and aged for one year in French oak barrels (15% new). It has some reductive aromas when you open the bottle, so a good, energetic decanting in advance could be a good idea. The Mas Asturias wines are quite cerebral, earthy and restrained, with aging potential. This 2012 has a classic structure and a polished mouthfeel with fine tannins and good freshness. It's approachable now, but it should age very well, as I've seen in older vintages. 15,000 bottles produced.
