Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

They have a red that is simply called 'tinto' (red!), and the 2018 Tinto is pure Mencía, which is the most common and better known among the red grape varieties in the Ribeira Sacra (and the rest of Galicia and Bierzo). This fermented with indigenous yeasts in granite pools and matured in 500-liter oak barrels for eight months. It has a fruit-driven nose (acid berries) with an herbal twist and is a little spicy, with a faint touch of beeswax and an animal twist. It has moderate alcohol (12%) that translates to a medium body and fresh acidity, fine tannins and a citrus-tinged finish. Very drinkable and fresh, good for what it is. 6,000 bottles produced.

Features

Description

Fazenda Prádio Tinto is a wine that reflects the cultural and viticultural richness of the Galicia region of Spain. Crafted by Xabi Soeanes, this wine is a tribute to the traditional winemaking practices of the area. Fazenda Prádio, which takes its name from a local tree known as false maple or sycamore, is located in the Chantada subzone, one of the coolest in the Ribeira Sacra, strongly influenced by the Atlantic. The vineyards, located on wide terraces between 180 and 300 metres above sea level, face the Miño river gorge and are planted on steep terrain composed of granite and schist. The grape varieties grown include Mencía, Caíño Longo, Merenzao, Brancellao and Godello, among other indigenous varieties. The practice of organic and biodynamic agriculture has been a constant for Xabi, although he has maintained a certain flexibility to adapt to adverse climatic conditions.

Elaboration

Fazenda Prádio Tinto ferments in granite tanks with indigenous yeasts and matures in used 500-litre barrels for seven to eight months. Production is limited, with only 7,958 bottles on the market, making it an exclusive, high quality wine.

Taste

Fazenda Prádio Tinto offers a taste experience that goes beyond simple varietal complexity. Made from 100% Mencía grapes, the wine presents a palette of flavours that includes berries, flowers, herbs and spices. On the palate, it is perceived as medium-bodied with balanced ripeness and freshness. The tannins are fine and the finish is long and fresh.
In summary, Fazenda Prádio Tinto is an authentic expression of the Galician winemaking tradition, standing out for its careful winemaking, the variety of indigenous grapes used, and its complex flavour profile. This wine not only captures the essence of the landscape and history of Ribeira Sacra, but also invites wine lovers to enjoy a rich and refined sensory experience.
