Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The NV Brut Rose comes across as delicate and even a touch frail. Sweet berries, crushed flowers and spices waft from the glass in this feminine Champagne. The NV Brut Rose is best enjoyed as aperitif wine over the next few years. This is Lot L109004. Disgorged December 13, 2010. Anticipated maturity; 2011-2013.

Features

Description

Bollinger Rosé combines freshness, balance and elegance. This cuvée is a demonstration of Bollinger's unique expertise in red wine vinification and the masterful art of blending. When Champagne Bollinger decided to embark on the creation of a rosé, its standards were uncompromising: it had to have freshness, but also structure and elegance. Bollinger Rosé therefore follows the same line as the Special Cuvée, with its spicy notes.
The aromatic power of this champagne is accentuated by the addition of an excellent red wine from the Poirier Saint-Pierre and Montboeuf plots in Verzenay or those of Aÿ, worked in the same way as the vines of the legendary Côte aux Enfants plot. This addition gives it a brilliance, presence and finesse that are the hallmarks of great blends.

Winemaking

Bollinger Rosé is a blend of more than 85% Grand and Premier Crus. It is composed of 62% Pinot Noir, 24% Chardonnay and 14% Meunier. The red wine acts as a styling agent, with an addition of only 5 to 6% given its power.

Taste

To the eye, it appears as a bright rosé with subtle golden tones. On the nose, the nobility of red berries stands out: hints of redcurrant, cherry and wild strawberry; with a spicy touch, similar to that of the Special Cuvée. On the palate, it offers a subtle combination of structure, length and vivacity, with a tannic finish due to the addition of red wine; velvety fine bubbles and wild berry flavours.
With its intimate and unusual flavours, Bollinger Rosé is ideal for serving during an afternoon snack, Bollinger style. It is also perfect for a picnic on a summer afternoon, as an aperitif or accompanied by a fruity, tangy dessert. To fully appreciate its unique style, bouquet and aromas, Bollinger Rosé is best drunk between 8 and 10°C.
