La Grange de l'Oncle Charles is a winery located in the picturesque Alsatian village of Ostheim. Founded in 2014 by Jérôme François, a young cabinetmaker with a passion for viticulture, this winery has deep roots in the family tradition. The history of the winery begins with a small plot of 0.6 hectares that belonged to Jérôme's grandfather, who produced wine for his personal consumption. Inspired by this heritage, Jérôme decided to settle on the farm belonging to his great-uncle Charles, after whom the winery is named.
Today, La Grange de l'Oncle Charles has grown significantly, encompassing more than 7 hectares of vineyards spread over the Alsatian communes of Ammerschwihr, Zellenberg, Kaysersberg and Ribeauville.Vineyards
The vineyards of La Grange de l'Oncle Charles are characterised by their diversity and richness. The Alsatian terroir, known for its complexity and variety, is reflected in the soils of these plots. The winery practices co-plantation, a technique of planting different grape varieties together, similar to certain cuvées of the renowned Domaine Marcel Deiss. This approach contributes to the biodiversity and health of the vineyard ecosystem. Organic and biodynamic farming are fundamental pillars in the management of their vineyards. To preserve soil structure and encourage biodiversity, they use animals such as horses and sheep to till and fertilise the soil, thus avoiding the use of heavy machinery and chemicals. Planting density is high, encouraging healthy competition between vines and deep root system development.
Philosophy
The winemaking philosophy of La Grange de l'Oncle Charles focuses on producing wines that faithfully reflect their terroir and maintain a harmonious relationship with the environment. Vinification is carried out naturally, without additives, respecting the integrity and authentic expression of the grape. The winery strives to produce atypical wines, with a strong identity and a pure and sincere expression. These wines, known for their finesse and character, have found their place in the world's most prestigious restaurants. La Grange de l'Oncle Charles is an outstanding example of how innovation and respect for tradition can coexist to create exceptional wines.
La Grange de l'Oncle Charles is not just a winery, but a testament to passion, tradition and innovation in the world of wine. From its humble beginnings to its current recognition, the winery remains true to its philosophy of respect for the land and passion for wine.
