Description
From its first dreams spun in the Mediterranean breeze, Sicus Cru Blanc was born from a radically honest idea: to let the land speak. Eduard Pié, its creator, renounced artifice to embrace the minimum, the essential. In Bonastre, in the Baix Penedès, he found in the La Caseta plot -a 24-year-old Cartoixà (Xarel.lo) vineyard planted at an altitude of 210 m above sea level and only 6 km from the sea- a perfect microcosm. The soil, loamy and calcareous, with good drainage and a slight alkalinity, gives the wine a sharp, saline and deeply austere personality. There, surrounded by pine forests and sea breezes, this wine is born as an act of resistance: only 932 bottles produced, without ornamentation, without concessions. A pure and radical expression of the territory.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, with strict selection in the vineyard. The fermentation of Sicus Cru Blanc starts as an infusion of whole bunches of grapes for five days in tank, favouring a subtle extraction of tannins, structure and varietal character. Subsequently, the wine is transferred to the bottle, where it undergoes the final fermentation under cork, an ancestral method that preserves its living essence. There it remains in reductive ageing for nine years before being released into the world: time, silence and transformation. It is not clarified or filtered. No added sulphites.
Taste
On the nose, Sicus Cru Blanc presents itself with a restrained elegance: notes of fine toast, raw almond, citrus rind and a saline background reminiscent of coastal air. There is no exuberant fruit: a dry, almost chalky minerality dominates, with subtle hints of fine Mediterranean herbs.
On the palate, Sicus Cru Blanc is pure nerve: sharp, electric entry, with vibrant acidity and a slightly creamy texture. It unfolds with lingering salinity, notes of candied lemon, dried hay, talc and fine yeast. The finish is long, dry, almost surgical, leaving an impression of wet stone and intense light. It is a wine that demands attention and time: a restrained, naked, deeply intellectual sensory experience. Perfect for palates that seek truth, not artifice.
