Pepe Mendoza Fierroca 2021
£71.42 (Inc. VAT bot. 75 cl.) / North Ireland
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Fierroca, the second vintage of Giró from old vines on the upper two terraces of the Abargues property, fermented with 30% full clusters and matured in used oak barrels for 12 months. It's ripe at 14% alcohol and has low pH and good acidity. This is a more powerful vintage compared with the subtler and more ethereal 2020, but it's still very balanced. It feels quite young and undeveloped, a little closed and a little marked by the élevage but with depth and complexity, and also quite chalky. This is going to need a little bit more time. 1,900 bottles were filled in March 2023.
