Aged eight months in barrel (20% new), the 2018 IGP Côtes Catalanes Cayrol Vieilles Vignes de Carignan boasts bold raspberry aromas and hints of green peppercorns. The fruit dominates, delivering red berry flavors on the medium to full-bodied palate that is framed by supple tannins and bright acids on the finish. It's almost too fruity and a bit one-dimensional, but for a monovarietal Carignan, this is darn impressive.
