Description
In the heart of La Rioja Alta, where winemaking tradition is present in every grape variety, Cune Blanco Semidulce decided to take a little-trodden path: a semi-sweet white made exclusively from Viura, a variety that is usually found here in drier or aged versions. It was a bold decision, taken only in years when the ripening of the grape allows it to reach that exact point of balance between freshness and concentration. The aim: to createa white wine that combines smoothness, depth and Rioja authenticity, without concessions.
Winemaking
The clay-limestone soil and the Atlantic-Mediterranean climate of the area give the Viura a clean and aromatic expression. Under this influence, the winemaking team chooses to harvest by hand, selecting clusters at their optimum ripeness. After a delicate pressing, the must of Cune Blanco Semidulce ferments in American oak barrels, where the wine develops its creamy texture and subtly toasted aromas. Fermentation is stopped naturally to preserve some of the residual sugar, providing a pleasant and perfectly balanced sweetness.
Taste
Cune Blanco Semidulce has a straw colour with greenish hues. On the nose, ripe white fruits such as pear and baked apple stand out, enveloped in notes of vanilla, dried fruits and a subtle smokiness from the barrel ageing. On the palate, the entry is smooth, almost gourmand, with hints of caramel, light honey and candied citrus. The acidity keeps the wine lively, lengthening its finish with balsamic and floral touches. It is a highly versatile white wine, ideal with foie, goat's cheese or Asian cuisine, as well as to enjoy on its own, when looking for a moment of balanced sweetness and discreet elegance.
