Jacques Selosse Version Originale Extra Brut
£487.60 (Inc. VAT bot. 75 cl.) / North Ireland
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Disgorged in November 2019, the latest release of Selosse's NV Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru V. O. (Version Originale) is still quite tight-knit, unwinding in the glass with a complex bouquet of green orchard fruit, dried apple, honeycomb, walnuts and subtle hints of yellow chartreuse. Full-bodied, deep and fleshy, it's tensile and precise, with real cut and mineral grip, complemented by an elegant pinpoint mousse and concluding with a long and sapid finish. I'm looking forward to revisiting it with a year or two on cork. As readers will remember, this cuvée is a blend of three vintages (2013, 2012 and 2011 in this case) from the higher-altitude, chalkier parts of Avize, Cramant and Oger, where yields are naturally around a third lower than in the parcels that produce Initial.
