Description
Frontonio Botijo Rojo is a red wine made from the Garnacha grape variety, a grape that authentically expresses the terroir of the village of Épila, in Aragón. The grapes come from 25 hectares of unirrigated vineyards, planted on clay and limestone soils at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level. The vines, which are between 20 and 50 years old, are organically farmed and harvested by hand between late August and early September.
Winemaking
The winemaking process for Frontonio Botijo Rojo is natural and unadorned: fermented in stainless steel and cement tanks with between 8% and 10% whole bunches, and aged for more than nine months in underground cement tanks. This ageing method preserves the freshness and purity of the Garnacha, resulting in an honest, straightforward wine. Production is limited to approximately 53,000 bottles.
Taste
Frontonio Botijo Rojo presents itself as a fresh and vibrant expression of Garnacha. On the nose, it offers delicate aromas of red fruits, such as wild strawberries, accompanied by floral notes of violets and herbal hints of oregano. On the palate, the wine is fresh and medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a balanced acidity that reinforces its refreshing character. The finish is long, with a slight mineral grip that comes from the chalky soils in which the vines are grown. The texture is fine and the wine shows a pure, unspoiled character, making it an excellent choice for those looking for an authentic, natural Garnacha, perfect for drinking young.
