Description
Bott-Geyl Muscat d'Alsace Les Éléments was born from the conviction that Muscat can be much more than an aromatic wine: it can be a crystalline expression of landscape. At the historic Domaine Bott-Geyl in Beblenheim, the Bott family has been cultivating vines since the end of the 18th century. However, it was Jean-Christophe Bott who profoundly transformed the direction of the winery by converting all the vineyards to biodynamic farming in the early 2000s. In a region where humidity complicates cultivation, many considered that decision too risky. Bott, however, was convinced that only by working in harmony with nature could the authentic character of his soils be revealed.
The cuvée Les Éléments reflects precisely that philosophy: a wine that connects soil, climate and variety. It comes from different plots within the Alsace AOC, where the soils combine marl, limestone and sandstone that bring tension and mineral finesse. The semi-continental climate of Alsace, protected by the Vosges, allows for long and aromatically intense maturation without losing freshness.
The wine is made mainly from Muscat Ottonel and Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, two varieties that are sought after here in their purest expression. Bott's intention has always been clear: to capture the sensation of eating a fresh grape straight from the vineyard.
Winemaking
To make Bott-Geyl Muscat d'Alsace Les Éléments, the grapes are harvested by hand, with a precise selection of bunches in the vineyard. After the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed to preserve the Muscat's aromatic finesse to the maximum.
Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, a neutral environment that allows the varietal clarity to be preserved. Subsequently, the wine remains for several months on its fine lees, providing a slightly more enveloping texture without losing tension.
There is no use of wood or unnecessary intervention. The aim is to maintain the aromatic purity and natural freshness of the wine. Bottling is done relatively early in order to preserve all its energy.
Taste
On the nose, Bott-Geyl Muscat d'Alsace Les Éléments opens with a luminous and precise fragrance. White flowers, elderflower and honeysuckle appear, accompanied by a citrus burst of fresh lemon and lime peel. Immediately the hallmark of Muscat d'Alsace emerges: the sensation of freshly cut, crisp, juicy grapes.
With some air, nuances of green apple, a delicate touch of white peach and a faint herbal whisper reminiscent of vine leaves and fresh herbs appear.
On the palate the wine enters directly, lively and electric. The acidity sets the pace from the first moment, providing tension and great refreshing capacity. Citrus notes dominate the attack while the floral character envelops the palate with elegance.
The finish is dry, clean and persistent, with echoes of citrus, white flowers and a subtle mineral salinity that immediately invites another sip. A vibrant, pure and extraordinarily expressive white wine from Alsace.
