Description

In the heart of Alsace, Zind-Humbrecht represents a profound alliance between man and soil. Olivier Humbrecht, France's first Master of Wine, has taken biodynamics to an almost spiritual level, always seeking to make each wine a pure reflection of the terroir. Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire was born as the "second wine" of the legendary Clos Windsbuhl, made mainly with Pinot Gris from young vines planted on calcareous soils.

Winemaking

Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in large oak vats, where it also undergoes malolactic fermentation. It is aged for 12 months on fine lees, with an additional six months to gain complexity.

Taste

On the nose, Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire is discreet and elegant: notes of ripe pear, baked apple, lime b lossom and a subtle smoky minerality. The palate is smooth and enveloping, with hints of dried apricot, beeswax and lemon zest. The acidity, firm and precise, lengthens the wine towards a dry, saline and clearly chalky finish. There is tension, but also harmony. A refined Pinot Gris, with restrained energy, ideal for delicate seafood, scallops or gently spiced roasted vegetables. A quiet but powerful expression of the chalky soul of Alsace.
