Buy Wine from R. Pouillon
The R. Pouillon winery, located in the picturesque village of Mareuil-sur-Ay, in the heart of the Marne Valley, was founded in 1947 by Roger Pouillon and his wife Bernadette, with the help of his uncle, Louis Baulant, a renowned oenologist and consultant in the region.
Since its beginnings, the winery has experienced significant growth, especially under the direction of James Pouillon, who joined in 1964 and modernised the winery with technical innovations. Today, the winery is run by Fabrice Pouillon, who joined in 1998 after completing studies in business and oenology. Fabrice, with his dedication to the vitality and health of the vineyards, has taken the winery in an exciting new direction.Vineyards
The vineyards of R. Pouillon extend on both sides of the Marne Valley, in an exceptional geological location. With vines located mainly on south and east facing slopes, the vineyards enjoy optimal exposure to the sun. The geological complexity of the Champagne soil, composed of tertiary formations of loose rock with sand and clay and Cretaceous formations dominated by a resistant rock of Lutetian limestone and gravel, provides a unique terroir. This soil overlies a subsoil of chalk and highly carbonated loose rocks, which reach up to 40 metres deep, contributing significantly to the alchemy of the Champagne terroir. The vineyards, which cover 7 hectares, are planted with the traditional local varieties: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.
Philosophy
R. Pouillon' s philosophy focuses on authenticity and sincerity, with a strong emphasis on the connection to the land and family tradition. Fabrice Pouillon has adopted organic and biodynamic viticulture practices, including the use of compost, respect for the natural cycle of the vine and limited yields. The winery strives to produce wines that equally express terroir, fruit and uniqueness. Vinification uses traditional presses and experiments with oak barrels, demi-muids and stainless steel tanks. The winery also explores the use of ceramic and concrete egg-shaped tanks. Harvesting is done by hand and special attention is paid to the original expression of the soils, vines and grapes.
