In Burgundy, family names may open doors, but they never make the wine. Réno Pacalet knows this only too well. As the son of the renowned vigneron Philippe Pacalet, he grew up steeped in a philosophy based on observation, freedom and respect for nature. However, Maison Réno was not founded to perpetuate an inherited reputation, but to forge its own identity within the Burgundy wine scene.
Before putting his name to his first bottles, Réno developed his own perspective far from any well-trodden path. He spent several seasons working in Tuscany, completed a master’s degree in Strasbourg and, in 2019, joined the family business, where he played a direct role in winemaking and ageing. He later furthered his training in viticulture and oenology in Beaune. It was not simply a matter of learning how to make wine, but of understanding when to intervene, when to wait, and when to let the raw material speak for itself.
In 2023, the decisive moment arrived. Maison Rénobegan its journey in a shared winery in Chassagne Montrachet, a space designed for small producers with an artisanal ethos. From there, he presented his first vintage of Burgundy white and red wines from various appellations in the Côte de Beaune. A small, young production, yet underpinned by an extraordinarily clear conviction.
