The winery is located in one of the highest altitude areas of the appellation, which gives its wines a distinctive character.Bardos ' chief winemaker is Raúl Acha, a professional with a vast experience in the world of wine. Raúl has worked at several renowned wineries before joining Vintae, including Bodegas Bilbaínas and Bodegas Montecillo. Vineyards
The Bardos vineyards are located in a region characterised by extreme conditions, with altitudes close to 1,000 metres. The soils of these vineyards are a mixture of fine sands and gravels on a base of ferric clays, providing excellent drainage and adequate water retention. This unique terroir is essential for the development of the vines, which must endure long, cold winters and hot, dry summers.
The vines planted are mainly of the Tinta Fina (Tempranillo) variety, although there are also some Albillo Mayor and Garnacha Tinta vines. These vineyards are surrounded by wooded areas with holm oaks, junipers and oaks, which creates a unique microclimate that positively influences the quality of the grapes.
Philosophy
Bardos ' winemaking philosophy focuses on creating wines that reflect the authentic character of the Castilian landscape. The winemaking process begins with a manual harvest, which takes place between the end of September and mid-October. This careful selection of grapes ensures that only the best fruit reaches the winery.
Once in the winery, the grapes undergo a gentle fermentation and maceration process in 15,000 kg vats at a controlled temperature of 18°C for two weeks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and natural acidity of the wine.
The ageing of Bardos wines is a fundamental aspect of its philosophy. The wines are aged for 12 months in a variety of oak vessels, including 225-litre barrels, 600-litre bocoyes and large capacity vats. This approach allows for a balanced integration of tannins and aromatic complexity that is evident in the final product.
The leitmotiv of the Bardos project is to make modern, fresh and elegant wines that maintain a deep connection with the environment and the winemaking tradition of Ribera del Duero. Each bottle of Bardos is a tribute to the effort and dedication of the winegrowers who work tirelessly to produce grapes of the highest quality in adverse conditions.
