Buy Wine from Eisele Vineyard
Eisele Vineyard is located in northeastern Napa Valley, just east of Calistoga, at the foot of the Palisades mountain range. This land was first planted with vines in the 1880s.
History
The history of Eisele Vineyard dates back to a time before grapes began to dominate the Napa Valley. The first stewards of what is now Eisele Vineyard were the Wappo, native gardeners and land conservationists. By 1841, the Eisele lands had become part of the 7,285-hectare Mexican land grant, Rancho Carne Humana. In the 1880s, Jackson G. Randall and Charles Nathan Pickett were the first to plant grapes on what is now the Eisele Vineyard. In 1969, Milton and Barbara Eisele purchased the 65-hectare property and named it Eisele Vineyard. During their ownership, they established the site as one of the best parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in the Napa Valley. In 1990, Daphne and Bart Araujo purchased the land and during their twenty-three years of stewardship of Eisele Vineyard, they were committed to maintaining ties to the rural history of the Napa Valley. In 2013, Artemis Domaines & the Pinault family came to Eisele Vineyard, admiring and respecting the wines previously produced.
Vineyards
The 15 hectare Eisele vineyard is located on an alluvial fan near the northern end of Napa Valley. It is sheltered by the Palisades Mountains to the north and cooled by westerly breezes from the Chalk Hill Gap. The vineyard is planted on well-drained stony soils that produce an exceptionally concentrated fruit crop. The vineyard is divided into 13 blocks and over 40 sub-blocks, reflecting the subtleties of its soil and subsoil. The unique terroir of the Eisele vineyard comes from the estate's geography, defined and dominated by the forces of water and mountains. It is affected by two watercourses: Simmons Creek and a small perpendicular tributary flowing from the east.
Philosophy
At Eisele Vineyard, winemaking respects terroir and fruit. There is no signature or style of wine they are trying to achieve. In the vineyard, they do their best to produce the best fruit in each vintage. In the winery, their approach is precise, unpretentious, purposeful, uncompromising, natural and honest. They respect what each vintage gives them, and the authenticity of the story that each growing season tells. The wines from the Eisele vineyard consistently bear the hallmark of depth and balance that has characterised the wines from this site since 1971.
