Buy Wine from Jean Marc Dreyer
Jean Marc Dreyer is a winegrower born and raised in the village of Rosheim in Alsace (France), a walled village south of Strasbourg. Jean-Marc lives right next to the fortifications. He has followed in his father's footsteps, and has been running the winery to make natural and biodynamic wines since 2003.
Jean Marc Dreyer's vineyards
Jean Marc has dozens of vineyards around his village. All of them are characterized by a very healthy soil, which is reflected in the quality of the grapes, and of course, in the quality of the wine. He harvests many grape varieties, some of them already forgotten, such as Abondance. Others are Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Auxerrois, Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Noir. Dreyer knows how to care for them patiently and experiment with them. In one of his plots, for example, he knows how to plant trees between the vines. Or he chooses not to prune every third row of the harvest, always seeking to find a natural balance.
Jean Marc Dreyer's wines
The fermentation and maturation of most of his wines takes place in large wooden vats, which can hold thousands of litres of wine. Many of his white wines are macerated with the skins, which is unusual in the Alsace area. This is often done in containers covered with tarpaulins in front of the house. Then, they are transferred to tanks, followed by their final stage: at least one year of oak ageing. His maceration technique has taken it to another level. The result is wines that are surprisingly aromatic and fresh, as well as deep and complex.
