Buy Wine from Bodega Abel Mendoza
Bodega Abel Mendoza represents the purest style of a small Burgundian winegrower in the immensity of the D.O. Rioja. Rioja; activist and fierce defender of the environment, the land and its ecosystem, Abel Mendoza has his winery located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the Rioja Alta area; there with his wife Maite they work their 16 hectares in different plots on the left bank of the Ebro River, under organic farming system and with different types of soils: clayey, calcareous and sandy; the plots have privileged orientations and benefit from optimal climate and rainfall conditions.
The winery dates back to 1988 and in its beginnings it was dedicated only to the production of young carbonic maceration wines, although nowadays its record has changed and it produces high-end white and red wines of very limited productions. The average age of the vines is 30 years and average yields are around 5,000 kg/Ha.
Bodega Abel Mendoza uses Tempranillo to make the fruity Jarrarte Maceración Carbónica and the more structured and complex Abel Mendoza Selección Personal, one of its parcel wines, as well as Graciano for the very fresh Abel Mendoza Graciano Grano a Grano; it also owns vineyards for the production of white wines such as Malvasía, Viura, Torrontés and Garnacha Blanca with which it makes the fruity Abel Mendoza Malvasía, which plays on the contrast of its voluminous and oily mouth with slightly sweet notes ending in elegant bitterness with slight notes of barrel aging; or the Abel Mendoza Viura, drier than the previous one but with good volume and with more intense notes of barrel aging.
Bodega Abel Mendoza produces about 80,000 bottles annually.
