Buy Wine from Charles Dagand
The Charles Dagand winery, located in Abergement Le Grand, Jura, is a winemaking gem that has evolved over time. Charles Dagand, known to many natural wine aficionados, was part of the winemaking team behind the legendary Jura winery Domaine de l'Octavin. However, he decided to forge his own path by creating his domaine Carlito. Charles met Alice Bouvot and together they founded l'Octavin in 2005.
After a series of events, including vintage challenges and professional and personal changes, Charles started a solo project under the name Carlito and subsequently formed a business venture called Karnage with Stéphane Planche, owner of the famous wine shop Les Jardins de St. Vincent in Arbois.Vineyards
Charles Dagand's vineyards in Jura are home to traditional local varieties such as Savagnin and Chardonnay for whites, and Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir for reds. Many of these grapes, following a traditional Swiss francpean custom, are co-planted on very old plots. These co-plantations produce wines rich in concentration and complexity. The Jura terroir, with its specific climate and soil, contributes to the creation of wines of deep spiritual power, delicately ethereal and passionately carnal.
Philosophy
Charles Dagand's philosophy focuses on the production of natural wines following a strict natural ethic and using many biodynamic methods. His wines reflect his personality: free, unique and sometimes considered complex due to the presence of acetic in some cuvées. Nevertheless, they are wines without equal. Moreover, the Karnage project, in collaboration with Stéphane Planche, seeks to create wines that are a perfect combination of juiciness and depth. These wines, though jovial, do not reveal everything at first taste, enticing wine lovers to come back for more. While most of Karnage's cuvées are assembled from fruit purchased from friends across France, others come from Charles' own vineyard.
