Buy Wine from Movia
The Movia winery is located in a region rich in history and winemaking tradition. Located in Dobrovo v Brdih, Slovenia, this winery straddles the border between Slovenia and Italy, encompassing both the Slovenian region of Goriška Brda and the Italian region of Collio. Movia 's history dates back to the 18th century, but it was in 1820 that the Kristančič family took over the reins of the estate. The current vigneron, Aleš Kristančič, is the representative of the eighth generation of the family that has been making wine on the estate ever since.
Aleš is not only a trained oenologist (with a degree from the University of Padua and work experience at Domaine de La Romanée Conti), but he also grew up on these lands, knowing their rhythm and patterns intimately. In addition to his academic training, Aleš has worked in the family winery, carrying on the tradition and legacy of his ancestors.Vineyards
Movia has 30 hectares of land, of which 25 hectares are vineyards stretching between Slovenia and Italy. The Goriška Brda region, where Movia is located, is known for its cool continental climate. This area has undergone numerous territorial changes throughout history, having belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire and alternating between Slovenia and Italy due to the results of various wars. This rich history has left a legacy in the terroir of the region, which is reflected in the wines it produces.
Philosophy
Movia is centred on the belief that wine is one of the most important beverages a person consumes. Therefore, its work is honourable and, above all, very responsible. The winery firmly believes in minimal intervention, trusting that it is nature that creates the admirable characteristics of wine. Aleš Kristančič, with his training and experience, has led the winery to practice organic and biodynamic agriculture. In the winery, the wines are not inoculated or adjusted in any way. Long maceration times are favoured and different types of containers, such as oak (new and old) and amphorae, are used to make the wines. Only very minimal doses of sulphur are used before bottling. Through his wines, Aleš hopes that consumers can taste not only the product, but also the philosophy and way of life that Movia represents.
