Buy Wine from Le Coste
The winery Le Coste was founded by the couple Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron in 2004 on the shores of Lago di Bolsena, about 150 km from Rome.
Gianmarco and Clémentine fell in love in Alsace where Gianmarco spent years working in French wineries where natural wine is produced.
They got married and returned to Italy, where they bought some abandoned land near the village of Gradoli, where Gianmarco is from.
Location of the winery
The winery is located on the border of Lazio and Umbria (Italy). Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron are dedicated to recovering abandoned vineyards and forgotten varieties and traditions.
The purpose of their winery is summed up in the following sentence of its founders:
"With our wines we want to give pleasure to people, but in a way that is suitable for their body and good for theenvironment".
Use of eco-compatible farming techniques
In the vineyards , eco-compatible agriculture is practised in harmony with nature and the surrounding landscape. In addition, natural wines are produced that do not compromise the logic of the market in any way.
Their approach is purely natural, based on the principles of biodynamic agriculture with no chemical additives; they follow the cycle of life, learning from each vintage in the cultivated land.
In the vineyards everything is done by hand, with special attention to the needs of each plant and, while biodynamic principles are used, the approach here goes further by following the tradition and experience of each vintage.
Their vineyards...
Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron started with 3 hectares of abandoned land, and gradually expanded by renting venerable old vineyards.
The land where the vineyards are located is at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level. The composition of the soils where the vineyards are located is volcanic, rich in iron and minerals.
The type of vegetation allows to appreciate how cold it must be in winter and the slopes of the Bolsena Lake (the biggest volcanic lake in Swiss francpe) are a paradise for the farmers of the area.
Today they cultivate about 14 hectares of land, with vineyards among olive groves, chestnut trees and oak trees.
Grape varieties
Gianmarco and Clémentine work mainly with old local varieties such as Procanico, Roscetto and Aleatico.
Among the red grapes with which they often make their impressive wines are Greghetto and Aleatico, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Colorino and Vaiano.
As for the white grapes, the exquisite varieties Procanico, Moscatel, Malvasia, Ansonica, Verdello, Griego, Roscetto, Vermentino, Petino and Romancesco are frequently found.
The wines produced by the Le Coste winery are among the most expressive, pure and natural Italian wines. Gianmarco and Clémentine are creative and innovative, respectful of the terroir and local ancestral varieties. In short, this couple winemakes to the rhythm dictated by their land.
