The winery's history is rich and complex. Girard-Bonnet's roots go back to two powerful winemaking families who have been present in the region for decades. Philippe Girard, of the Girard domaine, continued the family tradition that had been established at the end of the 20th century. On the other hand, Dominique Bonnet belonged to the Bonnet estate, which in the 1980s produced around 140,000 bottles under the name Champagne F. Bonnet Père et Fils. However, fate intervened in 1988 when the Bonnet estate became extinct and its vineyards were leased. It was the expiration of this lease that allowed Paul Girard to merge the two vineyards, giving life to the Girard-Bonnet brand in honour of his family roots and traditions.
