Buy Wine from Finca Villacreces
Finca Villacreces is located in the Valladolid town of Quintanilla de Onésimo and belongs to the D.O. Ribera de Duero. The name of the winery is due to the first settler of the estate: Pedro de Villacreces, a Franciscan friar who settled along with other clergymen such as San Pedro Regalado in the traditional ecclesiastical custom of "ora et labora". With Mendizábal's dismemberment, the estate became the property of the Marquis Teodosio Alonso-Pesquera; his son sold the estate to the Cuadrado family in the early 20th century, who used it for recreation. It so happens that Peter Sisseck made use of the same as well as part of the vineyard of the property to produce Flor de Pingus; currently and after the purchase by the brothers Gonzalo and Lalo Antón to the Cuadrado family, the winery is remodeled and reopened in 2007. The Antón brothers also own the Izadi winery in La Rioja and the Vetus winery in Toro.
The site where Finca Villacreces is located has 64 hectares of vineyards out of a total of 110 hectares, complemented by a centenary pine forest. The estate is divided into 15 different plots with vines planted with Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The type of terrain varies depending on the proximity to the river where we will find more stony soils, or the proximity to the pine forest where the soils are sandier. It is important to highlight the thermoregulatory effect of the pine forest, which protects the vineyard from the strong thermal changes between day and night. The low yields, which do not exceed 2 kg per vine, are fundamental to the production of a wine with its own identity, an estate wine.
The winery, recently renovated, as we mentioned before, is located in the center of the estate and has a double selection table: the first to evaluate the quality of the cluster and the second applying the mistral system that separates the berries according to quality through a ventilation system; each plot is produced independently and after fermentation of the grapes, it will be aged in French oak barrels of the most reputable cooperages.
Pruno represents the youngest of its wines where the ease of drinking is the characteristic that best defines it, without having to look much further; Finca Villacreces is perhaps the wine that best defines the winery, structured, with fine tannins and toasted notes that remind us of its barrel aging; finally Nebro, which comes from a plot of old vines planted in 1917 and with a surface of just over 1 hectare, the most complex of them all and also the most oily and voluminous.
Finca Villacreces: from "ora et labora" to Château Ribereño.
