Buy Wine from Domaine Guiberteau
In the picturesque village of Saint-Just-sur-Dive, located just 12 kilometres south of Saumur, stands Domaine Guiberteau, a winery that, while having deep roots in the region, was reborn with a bold, modern vision. Founded in the early 20th century by Clément Menguin, great-grandfather of the current owner, Romain Guiberteau, the winery has a rich family history marked by bold decisions and a deep commitment to viticulture.
Vineyards
Domaine Guiberteau now covers 14.5 hectares, divided between the cultivation of 8.5 hectares of Chenin Blanc and 6 hectares of Cabernet Franc, mainly in the villages of Brézé, Montreuil-Bellay and Bizay. Each of these plots has unique characteristics that influence the expression of their wines. The soils are predominantly clay-limestone in Brézé and Bizay, while deep clay soil is found in Montreuil-Bellay. This terroir, combined with vines ranging from 4 to 80 years of age, gives Guiberteau wines an unparalleled complexity and depth.
The region's climate, characterised by cold winters and moderate summers, offers ideal conditions for growing Chenin Blanc, endowing its wines with a refreshing acidity and unique minerality. Romain's vineyards have been cared for with rigorous organic certification since 2007, reflecting a deep respect for the environment and the region's winemaking heritage.
Philosophy
Domaine Guiberteau 's philosophy is based on absolute respect for the terroir and a minimal intervention approach to winemaking. Each bottle is a pure expression of the terroir, as Romain practices minimal intervention winemaking: no pesticides, herbicides or chemical additives are used on the land. Hand-harvesting is an unwavering rule, allowing the best grapes to be selected and the quality of each cluster to be preserved.
In the winery, the white wines, made mainly with Chenin Blanc, are fermented with indigenous yeasts and mostly without destemming, giving structure and character to the wine. For his red Cabernet Franc, Romain opts for fermentation in cement vats, followed by ageing in oak barrels, mostly used, to respect the fruit and allow the expression of the soil to shine through in every sip.
This devotion to quality and minimalism has positioned Domaine Guiberteau as a reference in the Saumur region. Its focus on single-vineyard wines and its commitment to organic winemaking have captured the attention of wine lovers, who see in each bottle a true work of art.
