In the heart of Pedrosa de Duero, a town marked by its rich winemaking tradition, you will find Bodegas Rodero. This place, famous for its ideal soil and climate for growing grapes, is home to a winery that has become an emblem of quality in the Ribera del Duero region.
The beginnings of Bodegas Rodero are intrinsically linked to the figure of Carmelo Rodero, a man whose childhood was deeply marked by his love of vineyards and passion for wine. From a young age, Carmelo invested in the expansion of his own vineyards, following in the footsteps of his grandparents who made wine in the traditional way.In 1990, together with his wife Elena, Carmelo decided to found his own winery. With effort, dedication and a tireless spirit, the couple managed to build a winery that not only respected traditional winemaking methods, but also explored new techniques that raised the quality of their wines. This legacy has been taken up and expanded by their daughters, Beatriz and María, who, like their parents, share a deep connection with the land and the family vineyards, ensuring that the family project continues to evolve with each generation.
Vineyards
Bodegas Rodero 's vineyards are spread over approximately 170 hectares distributed in different plots, an approach that allows us to take full advantage of the diversity of soils and microclimates in the region. This diversity of soils is an essential factor that brings a unique richness and complexity to each of its wines. The soil, predominantly clayey with some chalky and stony areas, is characterised by its capacity to retain water and nutrients, which allows for longer and more controlled ripening cycles. This particularity of the soil, together with the altitude of the vineyards, which varies between 820 and 890 metres, gives the grapes an unequalled concentration and structure.
The climate of Ribera del Duero, with dry summers and long, harsh winters, determines the character of the vineyard. The thermal oscillations between day and night favour the concentration of aromas and the balanced ripening of the grapes, mainly Tempranillo, together with varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec. The average age of the vineyards is around 30 years, although some of the oldest plots are up to a century old, which gives the wines a unique character.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Bodegas Rodero is based on absolute respect for the land and the grapes, an approach that Carmelo Rodero has cultivated from the very beginning. The winery's commitment to quality is reflected in every step of the winemaking process, from the vineyard to the bottle. One of the most innovative and characteristic aspects of the winery is its gravity-fed vinification system. This method, which eliminates the use of pumping, allows for a more delicate treatment of the grapes, preserving their properties and intrinsic characteristics to the maximum.
For Carmelo Rodero, each wine is a manifestation of the connection between man and the land, a vision that is supported by the use of traditional techniques combined with the most advanced technology. In each harvest, the Bodegas Roderoteam works to extract the essence of the grapes, respecting the natural times and rhythms of each variety. This effort has made Bodegas Rodero a benchmark not only in Ribera del Duero, but also on the international wine scene, being recognised for its innovation and commitment to quality.
Values such as family, commitment, innovation and responsibility are fundamental pillars that have guided the project since its beginnings. The winery's vision for the future is clear: to continue to be a benchmark for quality and to transmit, generation after generation, a passion for the land and wine that goes beyond fashions and trends.
