Buy Wine from Esencia Rural
This is one of the most emblematic wineries in the town of La Mancha, which is run by the native Julián Ruiz Villanueva, an oenologist who has dedicated his life to this project, being today part of the famous producers of natural wine in Spain.
In each wine you will find the purity of the fruit with which they are made, trying to comply with the philosophy for which it was created, which seeks the natural expression of the grape, resulting in a catalogue of unique wines.
The Bodega Esencial Rural is located specifically in Quero, near the city of Toledo in La Mancha, Spain. It has an extension of more than 34 hectares, where different varieties of native grapes such as Tempranillo, Tinto Velasco and Airén are grown.
The transformation of the grapes is carried out through biodynamic techniques, trying at each stage to ensure that the treatment is the least invasive or any form of industrialisation of the process.
Let's talk about its history
Bodega Esencia Rural was founded in 1975, under the leadership of Julián Ruiz Villanueva, an oenologist who managed to convert an extension of land into a set of vineyards with plants up to 150 years old, where he has managed to harvest the best fruits and transform them into wines of great quality.
Julian Ruiz Vilanueva is an oenologist influenced by the love of wine, who not only dedicated himself to produce different examples with the grapes grown, but has also ensured that these are the best in the locality of La Mancha.
One of his objectives was to apply natural techniques for the production of the winery's wines, but it was not until 2016 that he managed to receive the certification to launch the first 100% natural wines on the market. Among the grape varieties used for the production of these wines are Tempranillo, Tinto Velasco and Airén, where each one contributes particular flavours and aromas to the wine.
The wines of this winery are described as Mediterranean, because in addition to the fact that the production process is based on 100% artisanal techniques, they are influenced by the altitude of the vineyards, which exceeds 700 metres above sea level.
Techniques used
In the winery, all the operations are carried out without any intervention of the fruit, so that the fruit can express itself naturally both in the taste and aroma of the wine.
To this end, the processes are carried out in the open air, using the warm climate of the region to favour the spontaneous fermentation processes, with the fruit's indigenous yeasts.
The ageing process of these wines is also carried out using biodynamic techniques, using amphorae during the ageing phase, and then bottled without clarification, filtration or the addition of additives.
The result is a variety of unique and fascinating examples that combine authenticity and the traditional touch of La Mancha.
Vineyards
The vineyards of Bodega Esencia Rural have an extension of 34 hectares and are composed of calcareous and sandy soils, which determine the characteristic flavour of the harvested grapes.
They are vineyards with great exposure to the sun, a lot of wind and little rain, which determines the quality of the cultivated fruit. Moreover, they are located more than 700 metres above sea level, with old vines dating back more than 100 years.
Mediterranean wines
Esencia Rural is a winery that is characterised by producing Mediterranean wines with a marked personality, classified as rustic, expressing in their aromas and flavours the terroir from which they come. They tend to be fruity and citric, with a balanced level of acidity.
