Buy Wine from Charles Heidsieck
The Charles Heidsieck winery is located in the prestigious Champagne region, in the town of Reims, France. Founded in 1851 by Charles Heidsieck himself, the winery has witnessed a rich history and tradition of champagne making. Charles, nicknamed "Champagne Charlie", was a pioneer in promoting his champagnes abroad, especially in the United States. His audacity led him to acquire the Crayères in 1867, a series of chalk cellars dating back to the 3rd century, offering optimal conditions for the ageing of his champagnes.
These cellars have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2015.Charles Heidsieck's current Cellar Master is Elise Losfelt, who succeeded Cyril Brun. Elise is an agricultural engineer with a degree from AgroParisTech and holds a Masters in Vine and Wine along with a National Diploma in Oenology. She has spent a decade in Champagne, holding various positions at Moët & Chandon and working with the Cellar Masters of Moët & Chandon, Mercier, Ruinart and Dom Pérignon.
Vineyards
The Charles Heidsieck winery owns and cultivates a 75 hectare vineyard in the Marne and Aube departments. These vineyards benefit from a unique terroir, with chalk-rich soils that reflect sunlight and provide excellent drainage, which is essential for Champagne vines. The Champagne region experiences a continental climate, with cold winters and warm summers, which allows for slow and prolonged ripening of the grapes.
Philosophy
Charles Heidsieck is committed to sustainable viticulture. Since December 2015, its vineyards have been awarded the "Sustainable Viticulture" label with "HVE" (High Environmental Value). Environmental protection, respect for biodiversity and sustainable vineyard management are central to the winery's operations. In addition, the winery has adopted organic practices, using organic fertilisers and avoiding the use of insecticides and herbicides. By 2030, the winery aims to be 100% Sustainable Viticulture certified.
The production of their champagnes is carried out with meticulousness and precision. The Cellar Master, like the conductor of an orchestra, produces Champagne by highlighting the best characteristics of each wine selected in the blend. Each note of each wine is worked on during the blending phase to transcribe the uniqueness of the House, the Charles Heidsieck style.
The winery has been recognised for its excellence and has received numerous awards over the years. In fact, Charles Heidsieck is one of the most awarded champagnes in the world, with its Cellar Masters recognised on multiple occasions as "Sparkling Winemaker of the Year".
