Pagos de Matanegra is the project promoted by José Luis Escudero together with two friends who are passionate about wine. It is a small winery of signature organic wines located in the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin. It has limited productions of about 5,000 cases, which allows to control the evolution of the wine, with the necessary attention and quality.
Pagos de Matanegra Vineyards
The vineyards of Pagos de Matanegra cover some 20 hectares in Castilla y León. The vineyards are an average of 60 years old with 30% of the vines being over 100 years old. They have been inherited from one generation to the next, cared for by experts, trained during years of continuous learning.The grape of Pagos de Matanegra, the native Tempranillo variety, is the cornerstone of the project and the soul of this small winery in the DO Ribera de Duero. Cultivation is organic, as it is carried out following natural criteria and also follows biodynamic principles.
Wines of Pagos de Matanegra
The wines of Pagos de Matanegra are organic red wines, powerful and structured, characterized by their freshness, friendliness and intensity, which could be said to be the main concepts of this winery. Among them, the Matanegra Crianza 2016 red wine with 89 Peñín Points and the Matanegra Perillan 2018 young red wine with crianza stand out.- ;
