Buy Wine from Kracher
The Kracher Winery is located in the Seewinkel region of Burgenland, Austria. This area, characterised by its warm and humid climate, allows the formation of Botrytis cinerea, essential for the production of exceptional sweet wines such as Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese. The winery has been recognised for its wines, with Alois Kracher being honoured with the title of"Wine Maker of the Year" by the prestigious British Wine Magazine seven times.
History
Following the death of Alois Kracher in December 2007, his legacy as one of the most important ambassadors of Austrian wine in the world lives on. Today, the winery is managed by Gerhard Kracher with the help of his partner Yvonne.
The winery's history dates back to its founder, Gerhard's grandfather, who established the estate that his son, Ludwig Kracher, would later make famous around the world. Luis, known for his vision and passion for winemaking, was a driving force behind the "Austrian wine miracle" in the 1990s. His innovative approach to dessert wine production earned him international recognition, especially in America.
Vineyards
The Seewinkel region is a vast plain with numerous shallow lakes, the largest being Lake Neusiedl. This unique terrain, often covered with dense fog, together with the continental climate, creates a unique microclimate for viticulture. The Kracher vineyards stretch between Illmitz and the shore of Lake Neusiedl. Although at first glance the region appears completely flat, there are subtle "mountains" or elevations that significantly influence the development of the grapes and the quality of the botrytis. The vineyards are planted with traditional varieties such as Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Weißburgunder and Scheurebe.
Philosophy
Kracher' s philosophy focuses on the production of exceptional sweet wines. Using grape varieties such as Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Scheurebe, Muskat-Ottonel and occasionally Zweigelt, Alois Kracher annually created between 10 and 15 different Trockenbeerenauslese wines in two different styles. The Zwischen den Seen wines mature in large wooden barrels or steel tanks, undergoing long contact with yeasts to bring freshness and primary aromas to the bottle. On the other hand, the wines of the Nouvelle Vague range are characterised by their ageing in barrels with air exchange during maturation, resulting in lively and deep wines.
Alois Kracher's passion and dedication to treat each grape variety with love, together with his courage to innovate and respect traditions, have earned him countless awards and accolades worldwide.
