Buy Wine from Bodegas Los Astrales
Bodegas Los Astrales is deeply rooted in Anguix, a picturesque municipality in the heart of Ribera del Duero, Spain. This area is famous for its rich viticultural tradition and has been described by experts, such as Jancis Robinson, as "The Golden Diamond", an exceptional region for the production of high quality wines.
The history of the winery began in late 2000, when the Romera de la Cruz family, third generation winemakers, decided to transform their passion for the vineyard into an ambitious project. Since then, the winery has sought to imprint the family legacy and love for the land on each wine, establishing a seal of quality and tradition. The direction of the winery has been marked by respect for traditional viticultural practices, combining family experience with modern techniques to enhance the qualities of Tinto Fino and other cultivated varieties. This project has also counted on the leadership of a vigneron with experience in prestigious wineries, who has been able to integrate advanced techniques without losing the essence of the inherited methods.
Vineyards
The treasure of Bodegas Los Astrales lies in its 29 hectares of vineyards, a mixture of historic plots and new plantings. The oldest vines, which extend over 12 hectares, are between 25 and 85 years old and are traditionally goblet trained, favouring protection from the winds and the accumulation of polyphenols and sugars. The soil in the area is predominantly clay-limestone, poor in nutrients, which forces the vines to develop deep roots and extract the maximum expression of the terroir.
The climate of Anguix plays an essential role, with cold winters and dry summers that allow a slow and controlled ripening of the grapes. This environment provides the ideal conditions for the Tinto Fino and small plots of Merlot to unfold their full potential, showing a balance between structure, acidity and aromatic richness.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Bodegas Los Astrales focuses on quality and respect for the environment. The production of its wines reflects a commitment to careful winemaking techniques that include fermentation in controlled tanks and meticulous ageing in high-end oak barrels. The winery employs a policy of constant barrel renewal, using 30% new barrels each year, combining fine-grained French oak and, to a lesser extent, American oak.
One of its most outstanding wines, Astrales Christina, is made with malolactic fermentation in barrel and ageing on lees for 18 months, providing a complex and elegant profile with hints of black fruits, spices and subtle mineral notes. The range includes limited editions, such as Astrales Luma, which is aged for 24 months in new barrels and then refined in bottle for at least a year, ensuring that each wine reaches the consumer at its optimum point of development.
This approach, which respects biodiversity and minimises the use of chemicals through tillage rather than herbicides, highlights a sustainable commitment that goes beyond production and seeks to preserve the legacy for future generations.
