Buy Wine from Quinta Sardonia
When we talk about Quinta Sardonia it is inevitable to relate it to Peter Sisseck, the renowned Danish winemaker and owner of Dominio de Pingus. The winery is adjacent to the D.O. Ribera del Duero, but it is outside its boundaries and is therefore attached to V.T. Castilla y León.
Quinta Sardonia is a recently created project, specifically in 2002 and the result of the enthusiasm of the young Bordeaux winemaker Jerôme Bougnaud (with deep roots in viticulture on his parents' side) and Peter Sisseck.
During 1999 and 2000 new vineyards were planted with varieties such as Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, a factor that did not prevent the wines from triumphing in the market from the very first vintages.
Quinta Sardoniahas 20 hectares spread over 11 plots with very varied soils, all of them located in the Valladolid municipality of Sardón de Duero, barely half a kilometer from the Duero River and at a considerable altitude: over 800 meters above sea level. The vineyards are dominated by a continental climate although with Mediterranean influence and biodynamics is practiced in the vineyard.
Regarding the winery, it has two buildings, one for the fermentation of the grapes, always natural, through its own yeasts and another for the aging of the wines.
The two wines produced by the winery are: Quinta Sardonia, a muscular, structured and powerful wine; and QS2, the winery's second wine, somewhat less complex, with somewhat more maturity and liquorish sensations than the first.
Recently, in 2010, the Galician group Terras Gauda bought two thirds of Quinta Sardonia 's shares in order to take control of the company.
