Description

Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Heimbourg by Zind-Humbrecht was born of a bold intuition. While many winegrowers abandoned the steep slopes of the Heimbourg after the First World War, Leonard Humbrecht was fascinated by this enclave of oolitic limestone and oligocene marl in Turckheim. The soil is poor, stony and aggressive, but full of minerality and expression. Its Southwest orientation and prolonged exposure to the evening sun, facing the Munster Valley, allow for balanced ripening, without losing acidity. The winery, a pioneer in biodynamic practices, replanted part of the vineyard in the 1990s, and the young vines, from their origin worked in balance with the environment, already offer fruit of surprising depth.

Winemaking

The Zind Humbrecht Riesling Heimbourg is harvested at just the right point of ripeness to avoid over-ripeness and to preserve the wine's natural tension. In warm years such as 2022, the development is rapid and requires precision. Fermentation is always slow in this terroir, and in this case, it was prolonged without interruption until the wine reached its dry profile. No process is accelerated: the wine is left to evolve at its own pace, faithfully reflecting its origin.

Taste

Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Heimbourg is a Riesling defined by its energy and precision. On the nose, it displays vibrant citrus notes - lime, pink grapefruit - crisp white fruit and a minerality of chalk and wet stone. When oxygenated, it reveals hints of green pear, white flower and a subtle spice. The palate is incisive, with a firm, electric acidity that structures the wine like a mineral skeleton. The finish is long, dry, saline, with a lingering chalky echo. It is a wine that shuns exuberance, opting for purity, tension and austere elegance. A Riesling for those seeking authenticity and uncompromising mineral precision.
