Description
Kistler Les Noisetiers Chardonnay was born as an almost stubborn idea: to prove that California can be profound without being loud. Instead of pursuing lush ripeness and ostentatious oak, the winery preferred precision: a Chardonnay that speaks of haze, tension and soil. The name - " Les Noisetiers " - is no coincidence; it alludes to that subtly toasty note that appears when fruit and ageing merge without make-up. The cuvée is built with 100% Chardonnay, sourced from key vineyards in the environment where Russian River Valley brushes against the cool influence of Sonoma Coast : foggy mornings, breezy afternoons, slow ripening and unspoiled natural acidity. There, on the Goldridge soils of fine sands and well-drained silts, the wine finds a silky but sinewy texture, as if the richness is always "bound" by a mineral line.
Winemaking
At Kistler Les Noisetiers Chardonnay, the grapes are harvested by hand and enter the winery cold. The grapes are gently pressed with whole bunches and the must goes directly into the barrel, where it ferments with indigenous yeasts. The ageing process takes about 10 months on the lees, seeking more tactile complexity than aromatic sweetness. The bottling process keeps the artisanal pulse: unclarified and unfiltered, in order to conserve relief and character.
Taste
In Kistler Les Noisetiers Chardonnay, there is no strident tropicality on the nose: first Meyer lemon, fresh pear and crisp apple, then the serious, wet stone, fine brioche and that toasted hazelnut that gives it its name. The palate is creamy but electric : medium to full-bodied, yes, but supported by an acidity that sharpens the drink and cleanses the palate. The fruit remains white and precise, with a hint of pale peach, while a discreet salinity and flinty echo lengthen the finish. Persistent, pure, and dangerously drinkable: a Sonoma Chardonnay that plays at European elegance with California sunshine in the background.
