Description

Since Vincent Wallard returned to the Loire after years of making natural wines in Latin America, his vision was clear: to give Chenin Blanc back its free and wild character, far from technical domestication. Thus Tonton Chenin Très Coquin was born, a wine that does not seek labels or appellations, but expresses the soul of the land. The grapes come from organic vineyards in Anjou and Saumur, grown on chalky and clay soils, with an energy that is transmitted intact to the glass.

Wallard is known for his almost stubborn patience. In his first vintages, he even waited more than five years before bottling, convinced that the grape only speaks when it has matured calmly. From this is born a free wine, with an indomitable personality and a beauty that cannot be explained: it can be felt.

Winemaking

Vincent Wallard works with spontaneous fermentation, without added sulphites, without fining or filtering. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented in old wood, where the wine rests for 48 to 60 months. Nothing is forced: the wine evolves at its own pace, acquiring depth without losing vitality. It is a manifesto of natural wine, free from industrial control.

Taste

Tonton Chenin Très Coquin displays an astonishing sensory range: on the nose, notes of ripe pear, baked apple, dried flowers and a chalky mineral background. On the palate, the texture is creamy, with a lively acidity that stretches the wine with nerve and elegance. Hints of quince, citrus zest and a delicate echo of spices and yeast emerge. It is a Chenin Blanc of tension and amplitude, vibrant but ripe, which reveals itself little by little. Ideal for those who are looking for wines with soul, able to dialogue with cuisine -from roast poultry to long-aged cheeses- or simply with silence.
