Description
Since time immemorial, the title of nobility "Graf", which translates as Count in Spanish, has been the emblem of the estate where this wine is produced. In an attempt to honour this legacy, Sepp and Maria decided to give this name to one of their range of wines.
Muster Graf Morillon originates from old vines growing in the poor soil of Opok. These vines have been home to the Zweigelt, Morillon and Sauvignon Blanc varieties for as long as anyone can remember. It is important to note that the term "Morillon" is the local name for Chardonnay. Moreover, the vineyard that is home to these grapes is strategically located between the higher altitude Sgaminegg and the slightly lower Opok range.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation is carried out in 2,400-litre oval wooden barrels, using indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the wine matures for around 2 years in neutral toasted wood barrels. It is bottled without fining or filtering, and no sulphur is added.
Taste
Muster Graf Morillon is a perfect fusion of the exuberant character of the grape and the elegant vivacity of the Styria region. On the palate, one can perceive notes of ripe quince on rocks, accompanied by a subtle hint of the finest sea salt and smoke. It is a wine that evokes the classic chardonnay style, with hints of vanilla, oak and butter. At first, it has a light saline touch that fades as it opens, revealing a dense, deep flavour. Produced by a winery that never disappoints, this wine is a generous gift, ideal to enjoy in the company of an equally generous host.
