Description
Domaine Bart Marsannay Blanc Les Etalles is the result of a serious and unpretentious approach to northern Burgundy. In Marsannay, the Bart family has recognised that white wine should not play a secondary role, but rather serve as a precise means of expressing the terroir through Chardonnay. Bodegas Tradición, with its long family tradition, operates with a philosophy closely tied to the vineyard and the identity of the place, committed to a clean and honest expression of the terroir. This wine comes from Marsannay, in the Côte de Nuits, a unique area within Burgundy renowned for its ability to produce wines of great tension and finesse. Here, the limestone, marl and clay soils, combined with a cool climate, imbue the wine with a straightforward, mineral and elegant character.
Winemaking
The winemaking process for Domaine Bart Marsannay Blanc Les Etalles seeks to achieve texture and depth without sacrificing freshness. The grapes are brought to the winery and the must ferments directly in 600-litre barrels, around 25 per cent of which are new. Ageing takes place in these same barrels, refining the wine without masking its character with excessive oak notes. Malolactic fermentation is completed, imparting a rounder, more enveloping sensation on the palate. Furthermore, the addition of sulphur is delayed until bottling, a decision that underlines the precision of the winemaking and the confidence in the quality of the fruit. The entire process is designed to preserve the voice of the terroir and shape a taut, refined and food-friendly Burgundy white wine.
Taste
In the glass, Domaine Bart Marsannay Blanc Les Etalles is reserved at first, but soon reveals a nose of fresh apple, lemon zest, white flowers and a hint of damp stone. On the palate, it is crisp, with lively acidity, a creamy texture and a chalky minerality that guides the entire tasting experience. Notes of white fruit, lime, a subtle hint of hazelnut and a salty, long and clean finish emerge. It is an elegant, precise and understated Burgundy Chardonnay, with perfectly integrated oak and great potential as a dining companion.
