Description

Domaine Bart Marsannay Es Chezots stems from a long-established Burgundian family with deep roots in Marsannay, at the northernmost tip of the Côte de Nuits. Pierre Bart, alongside Odile and Martin Bart, tends to each plot with a very clear philosophy: to let the vineyard speak before the winery does. Their history is marked by bold decisions; not surprisingly, the family were pioneers in the region, championing Marsannay rosé in the early 20th century. This wine, made from Pinot Noir, comes from Es Chezots, a cooler, more breezy plot capable of producing reds with great tension, finesse and vigour. The calcareous and marly soils, combined with the cool climate of the Marsannay appellation, lend that mineral, straightforward and elegant character that distinguishes the village’s finest wines.

Winemaking

AtDomaine Bart Marsannay Es Chezots, the grapes are harvested by hand and enter the winery after careful selection. At Es Chezots, the grapes are fully destemmed, as the stems on this cool plot rarely reach sufficient ripeness. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts and extraction is carried out gently, prioritising precision over power. The wine is aged for 12 months in 225- and 600-litre barrels, with around 15 per cent new oak, followed by a few months in tank before bottling. The wine is bottled with minimal intervention, without fining or filtering.

Taste

In the glass, Domaine Bart Marsannay Es Chezots displays the most elegant and fresh profile of Marsannay. The nose offers crisp red fruit, ranging from tart cherry, raspberry and redcurrant, accompanied by delicate floral notes, a spicy undertone and a subtle earthy quality. On the palate, it is a medium-bodied wine with a silky texture, lively acidity and fine tannins that support the whole with discreet firmness. The fruit never feels overripe or heavy; everything here is about tension, freshness and nuance. The finish is long, mineral and slightly austere, with that combination of energy and finesse that makes this Marsannay Pinot Noir a refined, characterful red wine perfect for dining.
