Description
Domaine Bart Marsannay Rouge stems from a historic Burgundian estate that views wine as a faithful reflection of the landscape. The Bart family, heirs to a long tradition in Marsannay, work with a philosophy of precision and restraint, seeking to allow the terroir to express itself without artifice. The idea behind this wine stems from a desire to showcase the purest character of the northern Côte de Nuits, where Pinot Noir finds a particularly fresh, straightforward and mineral expression. In an area that has long received less media attention than neighbouring villages, Domaine Bart has courageously committed itself to defending Marsannay’s identity through rigour and authenticity, without resorting to excessive ripeness or oak. The vineyards are situated on a complex combination of limestone, marl and clay, in a continental climate that favours slow ripening and preserves the grape’s natural tension. All this results in a Burgundy red wine with vigour, purity and a distinct identity of origin.
Winemaking
The winemaking process for Domaine Bart Marsannay Rouge follows a philosophy of minimal intervention and maximum transparency. The Pinot Noir grapes are brought into the winery for vinification focused on preserving the fruit and the energy of the terroir. Ageing takes place in barrels, demi-muids and large oak casks, with a very moderate use of new oak – just 5 per cent. This approach allows the wine’s texture to be refined without masking its varietal character or mineral profile. The result is a precise, clean and vibrant wine.
Flavour
On the nose, Domaine Bart Marsannay Rouge reveals fresh red fruit – cherry, wild strawberry and redcurrant – alongside delicate floral notes, fine herbs and a subtle hint of spice. On the palate, it is juicy, lively and very well-defined, with fine tannins, lively acidity and an earthy, stony undertone that lends depth. The fruit remains crisp and pure, whilst the dry, lingering finish leaves a very elegant mineral sensation. An authentic, fresh and lively Pinot Noir from Marsannay.
